BUJUMBURA January 22nd (ABP) –The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Burundi worked hard during the second quarter of 2019-2020 (October, November and December 2019) to ensure the implementation of its plan actions, Burundi Minister of Foreign Affairs Ezéchiel Nibigira said in Bujumbura on Tuesday.
Mr. Nibigira, who held a press conference on the major achievements of his ministry during the 2nd quarter of 2019-2020, said that the work carried out also aimed at implementing the various recommendations of the Burundi government, with a focus on four main points.
He cited the strengthening of cooperation with bilateral and multilateral partners, the strengthening of diplomatic communication, the consolidation of the strategic partnership with the Burundi diaspora and the continuation of so-called routine activities by the central administration.
About strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Burundi’s partners, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in statutory meetings and conferences of sub-regional, regional and international organizations.
Concerning the strengthening of diplomatic communication, that ministry granted 27 audiences to bilateral and multilateral partners to exchange on subjects of common interest. For the third point concerning the consolidation of the strategic partnership with the Burundi diaspora, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was able to organize training for the staff of the Diaspora leadership. Indeed, said Minister Nibigira, training for officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs focused on capacity building and bilateral labor migration agreements.
Finally, the fourth point related to the continuation of so-called routine activities by the central administration. The Minister of Foreign Affairs has made efforts to organize weekly meetings with the directors general of the ministry, the primary purpose of which was to give clear guidelines on the strategies to be implemented to enhance the performance of the ministry.
The Head of Burundi diplomacy stressed that in any case, he and his services are happy to have done their best in implementing the objectives they had set for the Government Action Plan and the ministry’s action plan for the past quarter.
“We are satisfied with the results achieved despite the difficulties encountered. We will continue to work in this ongoing quarter full of enthusiasm and enthusiasm, in particular to achieve the total lifting of misunderstandings with certain partners, the withdrawal of Burundi from the agenda of the United Nations Security Council, the search for new partners and the conclusion of new agreements, “he concluded.
