BUJUMBURA July 5th (ABP) – Three organizations, namely Kick-off for Hope, Bethesda and Amahoro Foundation, organized in Bujumbura City Council on Wednesday July 3, 2019, a Marathon race for peace with the aim of building peace in Burundi.
During that marathon, participants ran according to three age categories. Girls and boys aged 12 to 13 ran 2 kilometers, those aged 14 to 17 ran 4 kilometers while those aged 18 and over ran 10 kilometers.
After the event, Mr. Jean Nihorimbere, the advisor in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, thanked the organizers and participants by indicating the benefits of the sports.
For him, sports brings people together and contributes to the development of the country. He continued to say that it’s during sports that people talk to each other the truth and forgive each other.
Mr. Nihorimbere asked everyone to get involved in sports because it contributes to the building of peace and tightening of security in the country.
As for Mr. Charles Nkazamyampi, former international athlete, he said he was satisfied with the results of that marathon. The performances displayed by the athletes who participated in that marathon are encouraging, he said. He recalled that the marathon was attended by athletes from all the provinces of the country, even from Kenya.
Note that after the prizes were awarded to the winners, the marathon was closed with a friendly football match between Vital’O FC and Rukinzo, which resulted in Vital’O’s victory on the score of one goal to zero (1-0).
