BUJUMBURA March 19th (ABP) – The Union for Peace and Development Party (UPD) -Zigamibanga held its ordinary annual meeting of the Central Committee in Bujumbura on Saturday March 16, 2019 to discuss the activities carried out in 2018 and to set a program for the year 2019, a check by ABP revealed.
According to the leader of the party, Mr. Abdoul Kassim, the meeting was an opportunity for the members of the central committee to discuss the party’s electoral program and prepare the lists of candidates for legislative and communal elections that the UPD-Zigamibanga party will present at the next elections.
Speaking about the social projects that his party will present in the 2020 elections, Mr. Kassim first spoke about the education sector, where he said that for Burundi to develop, there must be a quality education. He said that all countries that have developed or are developing today have focused on education. For him, the executives who come out of school must be competent people who offer quality services.
Mr. Kassim said his party will focus on the health sector. To be able to go about daily activities and have efficient production, people must be in good health, he said. For him, health services must be services that are well equipped with effective material and have sufficient medicines. People need easy and better access to health care, he said.
According to Mr. Kassim, his party will also present the project on food security because, he explained, malnourished people cannot produce.
“Burundian soil is fertile even though it seems to be shrinking,” he said, adding that he remains confident that it can be exploited effectively to produce enough. “The goal of my party is that every Burundian can eat at least three times a day,” Mr. Kassim said.
The fourth and final project of his party will be based on employment, Kassim said, deploring that today, many young people are jobless after completing their studies. “If the UPD-Zigamibanga party wins the 2020 elections, it will do everything to create jobs to find employment for young Burundians who finish their studies,” he said.
On his part, the leader of the party in Bujumbura City Council, Mr. Prosper Ndayisaba, said in his welcoming speech that all party persons in authority are strong. He expressed confidence that his party will win seats in the National Assembly in the 2020 elections. He said that the UPD-Zigamibanga party is working closely with the administration of the Bujumbura City Council as well as the police forces. In addition, he said, young people affiliated with his party live in harmony with the youth of other political parties.
Note that in addition to the members of the central committee, the leaders of the party at the provincial level also attended the meeting.
