GITEGA April 27th (ABP) – Under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Burundi, Mr. Pierre Nkurunziza, the National Youth Conference, 2019 edition, opened the works in the Hall of the Gitega Paramedical School on Friday under the theme “Youth, let us mobilize to preserve our achievements and watch over our homeland”. This conference, the 4th of its kind, was enhanced by the presence of several dignitaries of the country as well as many young people from all the provinces of Burundi.
In his welcoming address, the governor of Gitega province (central Burundi), Mr. Venant Manirambona, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Head of State who honored that conference with his presence and for the choice of Gitega, the political capital, which once again hosts this 4th national conference. He said that young people who participated in previous conferences commend the rich teachings. He appreciated the good example of the President of the Republic to approach young people in sessions of education and patriotic moralization. He invited young people to take the lessons learned to heart.
In her speech, the Minister of Youth, Posts and Information Technologies, Ms. Evelyne Butoyi, expressed her great joy for the presence of the President of the Republic at the works of the 4th National Youth Conference. She thanked President Nkurunziza for his patriotic values and his undeniable inclusion of young people in the construction of the country.
Minister Butoyi also said that the Burundi government gives an important place to the young people who constitute the majority of the population with 66%. This is why they are taken into account in the National Development Plan (NDP) and in the implementation of the National Youth Policy. She also announced that the government has also provided for a three billion guarantee fund for youth development projects.
She thus invited them to get involved in peace building and in the good cohabitation regardless of their diversity. They should also go about development works and avoid anything that would incite them to evil purposes
Ms. Butoyi also called on associations, political parties and religious denominations to collaborate with ministries in charge of youth and the interior in their youth supervision initiatives.
