NGOZI January 13th (ABP) – Burundi Head of State, Mr. Pierre Nkurunziza presides over Ngozi at the ceremonies for the presentation of provincial achievements in 2019 and the outlook for 2020. It is also an opportunity to exchange vows for the year 2020.
The governor of Ngozi, Mr. Albert Nduwimana in his welcome speech said that the province knows good security in the 9 communes of the province even if minor incidents often occur between activists of political parties.
The 2020 A crop season is looking good and the people is preparing for the 2020 general election.
Participants watched a documentary of the province’s accomplishments. They are mainly focused on the political, security and social sectors.
Mr. Governor Nduwimana cites here the supervision of political parties, civil society and religious denominations, health mutuals, the reception of returnees expelled from Rwanda, the fight against prohibited drinks, drugs and fraud, seizure of guns, and so on.
For the communes, the achievements concerned the agro-pastoral sector with the development of corn, potato, rice fields, the construction of agro-food processing units, storage sheds. They also cite the distribution of cows, goats and pigs, environmental protection, and so on.
It is also the construction of community infrastructures including health centers, schools, rural roads, parking, modern markets and electrification and so on.
On the whole, the achievements on own funds of the communes are evaluated at 9.6%, the contributions of the State through the Investment Fund of the Communes (FONIC) at 22.2%.
The contribution of the private sector is 31.7% and that of the province’s technical partners at 36.5%.
For the 2020 outlook, the governor has indicated that it will focus on the construction and completion of community infrastructures, communal offices, stadiums and so on.
The envelope planned for this year is more than 4.360 billion BIF.
The spokesperson for the President of the Republic, Mr. Diomède Nzeyimana gave an interview after the meeting.
Mr. Nzeyimana said that the Head of State has given a lot of pieces of advice to Burundians in general and to natives and residents of Ngozi province.
On the security side, President Nkurunziza said that peace and security are not only disrupted by arms. He cites 400 themes that could disrupt security.
He gives the example of children of unknown fathers, unregistered births, and so on. He congratulated the province of Ngozi which still ranks among the first in terms of development.
The Ngozi province comes in second place after the economic capital Bujumbura and was for that purpose baptized Dubai of Burundi because of the supplies of Burundi traders in that city.
The Head of State asked the residents and natives of Ngozi to remain united and to continue to develop the cooperatives.
Regarding the centenary of the city of Ngozi which is celebrating this year, the Head of State said that this city was created by the colonizer and that residents and natives of Ngozi can create their own with great modernity.
He said that there are development projects in the Vyerwa plain including the creation of a sports center that will host all kinds of games, a school of excellence that will teach music with a church orientation for that children learn to preach the divine word and a modern room that can accommodate international conferences.
President Nkurunziza was entitled to gifts consisting of 11 cows and 133 baskets of various food.
He had started the day with the granting of cows to certain high personalities on Rutanga village. Those who benefited from the cows include the two vice-Deputy Presidents of the Republic, certain members of the government and other high personalities.
President Nkurunziza said that his family has already given 69 cows as part of good Burundi practices.
