BUJUMBURA November 19th (ABP) – The ruling party closed last Saturday the week dedicated to its heroes. The ceremonies were attended by party’s activists from all over the country, the senior State officials from the ruling party, some army and police Generals including former armed forces (ex-FAB), representatives of authorized political parties and diplomats. They were held in Mageyo, Mubimbi commune, Bujumbura province (western Burundi), a check by ABP revealed.
Veterans’ Representative Hermes Bokasa said the peace in Burundi is a result of the fight of heroes who shed their blood for democracy and demanded that the government should continue to support veterans in self-development projects.
In his speech, the Secretary General of the CNDD-FDD party, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, said that the day of November 16 was an opportunity to self-evaluate and know where we come from, where we are and where we are going.
He said that if the CNDD-FDD won the battle for democracy, it would follow suit of other heroes like Rwagasore and Ndadaye with the support of the Almighty who was given first place.
He recalled that the fight for democracy has been won but that the fight for development continues today, adding that a Mugumyabanga must be at the service of everyone.
He suggested that as we are preparing for the 2020 general elections, the issue of candidate gets the attention of the Bagumyabanga. Mr. Ndayishimiye appealed to them to wait patiently because everyone knows that there will be a unique candidate and will be supported by the Chair of the committee of wise men.
The speech was made by the President of the Republic, Mr. Pierre Nkurunziza and at the same time Chair of the committee of wise men. The speech focused mainly on advice.
He said that the real fight is that of honor, the one that gives dignity to one’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He called on the Bagumyabanga not to betray their country and the CNDD-FDD party because the past will have shown that those who have been implicated in treason have experienced many difficulties.
Since 1994, they have seen traitors but it was in 2015 that there were many traitors, warning that there are even today those who are ready for treason.
To those people, the President warned them that God is ready to hit them with a metal stick.
As he is moving towards the end of his term, President Nkurunziza called on the CNDD-FDD officials who will soon be ending their term, not to give place to the wrongdoing, rather to leave a good foundation for those who will replace them.
A commission charged to verify if there were no embezzlement will soon be set up, revealed the Head of State, adding that the culprits will be prosecuted and will have to return the stolen money to the State.
