NGOZI January 14th (ABP) – The chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Mr. Pierre Claver Ndayicariye, closed a five-day retreat of the 13 TRC commissioners and support executives in Ngozi on Friday. The retreat aimed to make a common understanding of the law on the TRC, to take stock of the achievements of the outgoing TRC which had just spent four years in the service of the search for the truth for a final reconciliation of Burundians, to make a debate on transitional justice in Burundi and the healing of memories adapted to the Burundian context, to prepare a business plan for 2019 and finally to budget resources to finance the activities and salaries of staff.
Ndayicariye said he was satisfied with the activities that his predecessors have already carried out and promised to maintain contact with the institutions of the Republic and other partners so that those who want to accompany it know “where we come from and where we are going”. He also said that each year, the TRC will have to produce a report to be sent to parliament.
