KARUSI February 19th (ABP) – The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Gaspard Banyankimbona, enhanced with his presence on Saturday, February 16, 2019, the establishment of the village committees for setting up cooperatives in Muhororo, his native village, in Shombo commune of Karusi province (center-east), a check by ABP revealed.
Minister Banyankimbona, who was elected chairman of the supervisory board, promised moral support to that cooperative lastly created in the commune. He asked the members to give their all for the Muhororo cooperative to be successful and be the first in terms of yields.
The governor of the province, Ms. Calinie Mbarushimana, returned to the policy of creating cooperatives for sustainable development, a national policy initiated by the government. Karusi province, she said, is called on to take the lead in setting up profitable cooperatives. She took the opportunity to congratulate the Shombo commune, which is the first to succeed in the campaign and invited other communes to follow suit.
The economic adviser of the governor, Mr. Emmanuel Masabo, announced on his part that after the turn of the villages, a communal cooperative will be created in order to coordinate the village cooperatives. Communal cooperatives will also get together and create a provincial cooperative for sustainable development.
Finally, Mr. Médard Mbazabahizi, a rural development specialist and native of Muhororo village spoke about the importance of cooperatives. “Unity is strength, and support is more accessible and better monitored,” he said.
