BUJUMBURA July 5th (ABP) – The Minister of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. Déo Guide Rurema, handed over on Thursday July 4, 2019, tillage equipment to the Soil Valorization (VASO) cooperative which is in charge of a market gardening project in neighborhood II of the Ngagara zone in Ntahangwa urban commune.
After visiting the various nurseries, he indicated that he was satisfied with the work done by that cooperative whose members are State officials who are involved in market gardening after the service. Inhabitants will buy fruit plants and vegetable seeds to replace flowers and lawns with fruits and vegetables.
In fact, the minister gave the cooperative farm equipment and vegetable seeds. These instruments include hoes, wheelbarrows, rakes, watering cans and sprayers. The vegetables consisted of tomatoes, onions, peppers and carrots.
The supervisor of the activities of that cooperative, Mr. Benjamin Ndagijimana, said that he was satisfied with that material which will help members of the cooperative to continue the fight against hunger. He pointed out that even during the dry season, market gardening is possible because the Bujumbura city is rich in water.
The VASO cooperative has at least 250 members who have organized themselves to change their activities after service hours in response to the government’s appeal for self-development, Ndagijimana said.
