MUYINGA January 19th (ABP) – The Muyinga High Court (North-East of Burundi) sentenced on Wednesday January 17th Oswald Nkoribigawa to life imprisonment for having murdered his wife in the night of January 13 to 14, 2018 on Gasenyi hill in Mwakiro commune.
The legal costs were charged to the public treasury, according to the pronouncement. Before the judge, Nkoribigawa repeatedly tried to deny the facts even though he had confessed before the judicial police officer and before the public prosecutor’s representative. But those maneuvers of the alleged did not prevent the court to rely on Article 213 of the Criminal Code, Book II, to impose a sentence of life imprisonment. In criminal cases, that sentence is incompressible if it is an assassination, as stipulated in Article 136 of the Criminal Code, book 1, commented Deo Nshimirimana, chairman of the said court.
Recall that the same court had imposed last year the same sentence to soldier Claude Nzitonda, for murdering his wife. abp jcnz / ynd JAN 18
