BUJUMBURA June 19th (ABP) – The Burundian Senate voted unanimously on Monday the draft amendment to its internal regulations of July 2017. This draft amendment will be submitted to the Constitutional Court to recognize its constitutionality.
Once the draft amendment is accepted, the June session will be closed on the 29th, according to the Senate President, Mr. Réverien Ndikuriyo. The activities of the first ordinary session will begin on the first working day of August, in accordance with the new Constitution. Regarding the finance law for the 2018-2019 fiscal year, he pointed out that there will not be much to rectify compared to what the last council of ministers has already planned.Important changes include the timing of parliamentary sessions, the removal of the provision that gave the former presidents of the Republic the right to be Senators for life and the budget law. The three ordinary parliamentary sessions will begin on the first working day of August, December and April respectively. The fiscal year will run from 1st July to 30th June of the following year in accordance with the provisions of the East African Community (EAC) and the Burundi Finance Law will comply.
