RUMONGE June10th (ABP) – A 12-year-old girl from Mayengo sub-village, Gihwanya village in the Rumonge commune and province (south-west of Burundi), was beaten on Monday June 3, 2019 by her mother who also burnt her, with the embers of wood, on the part of the left cheek and a small part of the neck.
According to the child’s mother, the girl stole 2 kg of beans and gave them to one of their neighbors who, according to her, is the instigator of that theft, because it was she who incited the little girl to commit that robbery. She claimed that she burned her after interrogating and beating her without admitting anything.
The girl’s father and mother lived in quarrels, said Gihwanya Village Leader Jean Shabani Bazompora, adding that he had been repeatedly called upon to settle disputes between the couple.
Mr. Bazompora urges local parents not to inflict bodily harm on their children because such behavior is punishable by law. He advises to appeal to the local administration in case of problems.
The girl is being cared for at home by her mother.
