MAKAMBA January 16th (ABP) – The Minister of Justice, Civil Protection and Seals Control, Ms. Aimée Laurentine Kanyana, officially opened the works of the Appeals Court of Makamba (south) and its court on Monday January 14, 2019, a check by ABP revealed.
In her address, Ms. Kanyana said that the government decided to create the Makamba Court of Appeal to handle the cases from Makamba and Rutana provinces (southeast), because it noted that people of those two provinces had a lot of trials at the Bururi Court of Appeal (south-west) and that some failed to continue their trials due to the lack of travel and subsistence expenditure. Ms. Kanyana asked the prosecutors to monitor the activities of the Judicial Police Officers (OPJ) and to provide, to whom they may concern, reports on OPJs who do not fulfill their tasks.
In his welcoming speech, the governor of Makamba province, Mr. Gad Niyukuri thanked the government which responded favorably to the grievances of the Makamba plaintiffs, who had been on foot for a long time on their way to the Bururi Court of Appeal. He said the new Court of Appeal of Makmba still needs its own hearing hall, while the courts in the province need sufficient judges and clerks to speed up trials.
As a thank you, the people of Makamba offered a calf named “Ya Gushima” to the Justice Minister who finished her program of the day by a meeting with the representatives of the courts of justice in the Makamba and Rutana provinces.
