MAKAMBA November 21st (ABP) – The people of Makamba (southern Burundi) have realized that the protection of the environment concerns them, the head of the provincial branch of the Burundi Environmental Protection Authority (OBPE), Mr. Joseph Niyongabo, told a check by ABP on Tuesday November 19, 2019.
During this year, Mr. Niyongabo said, people have responded positively to the extinction of bushfires despite the fact that about 55 ha of meadows have been burned in 2019 while in 2018, 75 ha have been destroyed.
He indicated that all State afforestation and protected landscapes have been spared from those bush fires thanks to the synergy of the administrative officials, the people and the forest rangers.
He finally asked the people to follow the instructions of their leaders and respond positively to the “Ewe Burundi Urambaye” program.
