MAKAMBA February 13th (ABP) – The people of Makamba province (southern Burundi) are called on to change their mentality with regard to the plowing of sloping lands, the mining and quarries exploitation.
This came out of the security meeting that the joint provincial security committee held on Monday February 11, 2019, for the people of Bikobe village in Mabanda commune, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.
The regional chief of the Burundi Mines and Quarries Authority (OBM), Mr. Benjamin Nduwayo, asked individuals that want to exploit quarries to comply with the law to increase the tax in the public treasury. Mr. Nduwayo said that in order to extract the sand, the clay, the rubble and / or make the bricks, the people will have to form a cooperative.
He told them that it is forbidden to export the extracts from mines and quarries. He told the people of Vugizo and Kibago communes to create cooperatives to have approved quarries exploitation sites.
With regard to agriculture, the rural engineering at the Provincial Office of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. Etienne Mpawenayo, asked the people to change the way of plowing their fields. They will have to plow their sloping fields in the horizontal direction to keep the fertility of the soil. Mr. Mpawenayo asked the people to draw the contour lines and plant fixing herbs.
In addition, the coordinator of the family and community development center, Ms. Chantal Niyomwungere, asked the people to join the health mutual services for better health. She asked women to be incorporated into savings and loan associations for their household self-financing.
To close, the governor of Makamba, Mr. Gad Niyukuri, asked the people to avoid rumors of all kinds circulating on social media.
