BUJUMBURA January 21st (ABP) – The Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS, Dr Thadée Ndikumana proceeded on Friday January 17, 2020 to the presentation of the achievements of the first semester 2018-2027.
He said that the achievements of that first semester 2019-2020 stem from the implementation of the National Third Health Development Plan (2019-2023), itself aligned with the National Development Plan (PND) 2018-2027.
Minister Ndikumana is also delighted that during that period, major works listed in a few axes were carried out.
Under the axis of good governance, he said that meetings with all the staff are organized every week, which was a success and allowed the latter to have the same vision.
In addition, field visits were carried out in order to ascertain the state of implementation of government policy with regard to the good reception and good management of public affairs at hospital level.
Regarding mother-child health, equipment has been granted to health centers to be able to store vaccines but also other medicines and that will allow the quality of vaccines and medicines dispensed to the people to remain better.
Concerning the fight against epidemics, measures to prevent the Ebola epidemic in the DRC have been continued. All visitors were screened and well-trained and well-equipped health providers were deployed to all 22 entrances.
Compared to the cholera epidemic that has raged in Bujumbura City Council and in the Cibitoke health province in these days, the Minister of Health reports that currently no case has been reported for 21 days, hence according to the prescribed by WHO, it declared the end of the cholera epidemic. He said that more than 1,095 patients admitted have returned to their respective homes.
About the fight against malaria, he said that a MIILDA distribution campaign had been successfully organized throughout the national territory and that 6,900,000 MIILDA had been distributed. He took the opportunity to thank the security and administrative agents for the good collaboration that characterized them throughout the campaign.
He urged the people to use those MIILDA correctly. He calls on the administration to be vigilant and to ensure that they are not sold.
Grunts are observed in certain localities of the Bujumbura City Council which indicate that they have not been served. In that way the Minister of Health reassures while indicating that it has been realized that the interior of the country has been supplied with surplus from where the MIILDA which remained were transported to Bujumbura to be distributed to the people who have not been served.
Concerning the fight against HIV / AIDS, under the high patronage of the First Lady of the country, awareness sessions were organized throughout the country but also a synergy of the media which allowed the people to ask questions about the fight against HIV / AIDS and reproductive health was organized, which was successful, according to Minister Ndikumana.
In the fight against tuberculosis and leprosy, patients continue to be treated and receive free treatment. He is delighted that the therapeutic success has lived up to expectations to the point that the therapeutic success rate is the best in Africa.
In relation to the fight against chronic diseases, awareness-raising of the people to fight against these and screening for hepatitis have been done.
As for future prospects, the allocation of kits to community health workers grouped in associations, inspection and supervision activities of health facilities, surveillance of Ebola virus disease at the points of entry will be continued.
