RUMONGE February 20th (ABP) – First Lady Denise Nkurunziza inaugurated in Rumonge (South-West) on Monday, the “Victory Medical Center” of the Burundi Rock Church Community, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.
She expressed her gratitude to all those who did everything to make the establishment of that center a reality. She commended the plans for the establishment of those centers throughout the country by the Burundi Rock Church Community.
Ms. Nkurunziza called pregnant women for HIV / AIDS screening, and men to accompany them, without forgetting to use insecticide-treated mosquito nets to prevent malaria. The first lady advised the youth for self-respect and not to engage in prostitution. She insisted that it is in the interest of their future on the one hand, and that of the country on the other hand.
In the run-up to the 2020 elections, Ms. Nkurunziza calls on youth not to listen to rumor propagators, but rather to keep peace and security and to go about development activities. She also reminded young people to do voluntary screening for HIV / AIDS.
The Minister of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS, Mr. Thaddée Ndikumana, underlined that this medical center is timely, as long as there was only one reference hospital in Rumonge. He thanked the Burundi Rock Church Community as well as other religious denominations for their contribution, by supporting the government in the health field, especially in the matter of free health care for children under 5 and pregnant women . Minister Ndikumana also promised that the supervising ministry will always be alongside the “Victory Medical Center”, including expertise and providing a medical staff hired and paid by the government.
Mr. Edouard Ndikuriyo, a substitute representative of the Burundi Rock Church Community, said on that occasion that the good news that those churches advocate is accompanied by good works. He said the community plans to set up other medical centers in all provinces of the country, adding that the construction of the Rumonge Medical Center cost 1,336,551,000 BIF.
Mr. Ndikuriyo expressed his deep gratitude to the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS which supported the project, providing medicines worth 50,000,000 francs and 500 mosquito nets. He also expressed his gratitude to the Danish NGO “Global Medical Aid”, which provided a drug aid, a modern hospital bed and an ambulance. Its legal representative, Hans Friederich, promised his support to the Burundi Rock Church Community in its projects. In the case of the Rumonge Medical Center, he promised that each year he would provide a donation of 5 containers of medicines worth 1.5 million US dollars.
Before the end of the ceremonies, the first lady of the country distributed aid to the most vulnerable. It consisted of rice and soap. In recognition of her inaugural visit to the medical center, the governor of Rumonge province, Mr. Juvénal Bigirimana, on behalf of the people under his leadership, offered the first lady a cow and its two young heifers as well as food from all communes of the Rumonge province.
