GITEGA March 12nd (ABP) – Young people from Bujumbura City Council and the urban center of Gitega, brought together in an environmental protection association, met on March 9, 2019, at the place of the old tree symbolizing the center of the country, to plant ornamental trees. The representative of the “it concerns us all” association of Bujumbura, Mr. Jado Nkurunziza, said that this activity was conducted as part of supporting the Burundi government in its tree planting project on the one hand, and for the sake of embellishing Gitega, the political capital of the country, on the other hand. Mr. Nkurunziza thanked the young people of the Gitega urban center for taking part in those activities. He winked at them to appropriate the embellishment of the capital, arguing that it is their place of residence. Students of Polytechnic University of Gitega, gathered in the “ACAPE-Burundi” association also appeared in the ranks of the said environmentalists. Note that the old tree that symbolized the center of the country collapsed twice under the weight of age: in December 13, 2018 and January 2, 2019.
