CIBITOKE January 14th (ABP) – A press café organized by the NGO Empowering Response Burundi (ERB) funded by Oxfam NOVIB, was held at the headquarters of the Cibitoke province (north-west) on Friday to exchange on the evaluation of the authorities’ contributions in the implementation of the Nyubahiriza Project. The main purpose of that press café was to outline the involvement and ownership of the authorities in the implementation of the project which is in its second year of implementation in the Mabayi, Mugina and Rugombo communes.
The first year’s report was presented through a documentary film on capacity-building in peacebuilding and security for young leaders of political parties, women and men in dislocated households so that they become able to find a solution to their community problems. Peace and security plans were also put in place in the 15 villages where the Nyubahiriza project is located at the height of five villages per commune.
Note that the Nyubahiriza project runs in three provinces of Burundi, namely Bujumbura, Cibitoke and Muyinga and a total of 70 villages.The second year will be devoted to the execution of those plans, set up with the contribution of the authorities in the respect of the quadrilogy (administration, people, justice, defense and security forces) required in terms of peace and security, according to project coordinator Ildephonse Nahimana. The administrative officials present in that press café positively appreciated the activities of the Nyubahiriza project for the reinforcement of the peace and the good cohabitation of the communities, but also for the initiation of the community to the savings and credit activities for self-development. The senior adviser of the governor of Cibitoke province also expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the project for the first year and asked that its services be extended to all the villages and communes.
