BUJUMBURA June 4th (ABP) – The members of the Bafashebige (help them study) coalition met on Friday June 1st, in a workshop to discuss the new reform of the education sector. The participants in the workshop supported financially by ActionAid Burundi come from the civil society organizations (CSO) partners in the education sector.
According to Mr. Samandari, the Coalition organizes these kinds of meetings in order to make a contribution to the vast projects of reforms in progress in the Burundian educational sector in order to improve it and adapt it to the evolution of the world.According to Jean Samandari, chairman of the Bafashebige coalition, the overall goal of the workshop is to build the capacity of CSO members in the field of education. It is precisely to make them understand the reasons for the reform of the education sector and the way in which the reform is implemented. The meeting had also to identify the role that CSOs can play and the challenges that reform will have to overcome to make it a success.
It is within this framework that basic education has been introduced in the country. This teaching requires, however, that strategies be adopted to accompany this reform. Among other things, note the capacity building of different stakeholders in the sector.
The chairman of the coalition pointed out that it is important to be in line with the reforms of the education system with curricula of basic education already fixed. In this perspective, he said, it is necessary to ensure the continuity of the reform by setting curricula related to post-basic education. This has meant that a better definition of training offerings and curricula is being redesigned and the old disciplines restructured according to sections, while others have been introduced.
To motivate the debates, four sub-themes have been developed. This is the motivation of the reform, the state of play of the implementation of the new reform, the different challenges of reform and the role of civil society organizations in improving the reform.
The workshop was organized with the financial support of the African Network for Education for All (ANCEFA). International ActionAid ensured the follow-up of the Bafashebige Coalition Regional Support Plan.
