BUJUMBURA January 17th (ABP) – The Speaker of the National Assembly (AN) of Burundi, Mr. Pascal Nyabenda, received in audience in Bujumbura on Wednesday January 15, 2019, the General Secretary of the Muslim World League (LIM), Mr. Mohammad Bin Abdul Karim Al Issa.

Mr. Ndayihimbaze said that the Speaker of the National Assembly presented to the LIM Secretary General how he finds the contribution of the Muslims of Burundi in the various fields, whether at the level of the peacebuilding and security, at the level of development or especially a good coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims.At the end of the audience, National Assembly spokesman Alexis Badian Ndayihimbaze told the press that the LIM General Secretary came in Burundi within the framework of friendship and cooperation at the invitation of the institution of the Burundian ombudsman and that he took the opportunity to meet the Speaker of the National Assembly to discuss certain issues.

The spokesman added that the National Assembly Speaker also indicated that this good coexistence is demonstrated even at the level of associations where the Muslim and non-Muslim members work together.

The National Assembly Speaker informed the LIM Secretary General that thanks to the Burundian Constitution, there are Muslim MPs and even in the support staff of the National Assembly. Nyabenda also promised that whenever the Islamic community asks for support from the National Assembly of Burundi, that institution is ready to offer it.

Mr. Ndayihimbaze told the press that the Speaker of the National Assembly informed the LIM Secretary General about some challenges that haunt that institution in the performance of its task, at the level of government action control where MPs who carry out field trips experience the lack of some of the necessary materials, reason why he asked for support, as far as possible. To that request, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League replied that as the Speaker of the National Assembly presides over an institution that represents all the people, it is the demand from the Burundian people, hence Karim Al Issa promised that the request will be examined and that the response will be communicated to Burundian MPs very soon.

The LIM Secretary General also stressed that he found that there is a harmony in Burundi and that all Burundians work for the development of their country. Thus he asked the Speaker of the National Assembly to do everything possible to safeguard that peaceful coexistence that exists between the Burundian people in their diversity.
