BUJUMBURA July 28th (ABP) – The Minister of Communication, Information Technologies and Media, Mrs. Marie Chantal Nijimbere visited on Monday July 27, 2020, the headquarters of the Burundi News Agency (ABP), located in the Asian district in the Bujumbura City Council, a check on the site by the ABP has revealed. During that visit, she encouraged the staff to always be the voice of the people. She affirmed that the 18 provincial correspondents of the ABP are the only ones who collect, from day to day, information on all the events which take place inside the country. On that occasion, she appealed to the ABP to always carry the voice of the people far. With that in mind, Minister Nijimbere recommended to ABP journalists to continue to educate and inform the population on everything that is happening in the country.
The ABP general director, Mr. Nicolas Barajingwa said that the ABP department was a created in 1976 whose mission was to give a brand image of Burundi, by serving quality and objective information, collected by professionals throughout the national territory. From then on, to that day, its newssheets “ABP-INFOS” come out twice a day. In addition, the ABP-NEWS is an English version translated from the “ABP-INFOS” and comes out once per day. The ABP news, produced by a vast network of provincial correspondents, the headquarters journalists as well as support staff, is delivered by couriers and by e-mail, he said. Mr. Barajingwa also pointed out that the dispatches of that agency serve as a reference for national newspapers and local radio stations. Since its inception, continued the Director General, “the ABP has had the best photographers in the country who immortalize all activities of government and national life on all occasions”, while noting that the archives of the ABP still remain the most important in the country.
