The 2nd Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly calls for contribution to development

RUYIGI March 14th (ABP) – The 2nd Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Burundi, Ms. Jocky-Chantal Nkurunziza, calls on people and natives of Ruyigi province (east) to redouble their efforts in the development of their province. She issued that appeal after a meeting she held with them on Sunday March 11, 2018 during which the people of Ruyigi became aware that their province was ranked 14th out of the 18 provinces, in the evaluation of the stage already reached by each province in the development during the year 2017.
Ms. Chantal Nkurunziza emphasized that the place occupied by the Ruyigi province is not at all satisfactory and that the people in general and the intellectuals in particular must all be aware that the development concerns them first of all before any intervention coming from outside the province.
She emphasized that the people, and especially the elite, is an asset as human resources in preparing projects to improve the current development situation of the province. People must take ownership of the development of their province, she insisted. She winked at the communes that ranked in the last positions of this evaluation, including the Gisuru commune.
The governor of the province, Mr. Abdallah Hassan asked the natives of Ruyigi and especially intellectuals to massively participate in exchange meetings to discuss the development of their province, and to contribute both financially and materially, by putting their knowledge together. He said that the 14th place in his province does not mean that it has not achieved anything, saying that since the year 2015, the province has carried out several projects including the modern stadium of Ruyigi under finalization and which, according to him, will be equipped with a synthetic carpet from April of this year. He also said that each commune has also set goals, most of which can be completed by the end of this year 2018.
