Awareness-raising on the eradication of prohibited beverages

CANKUZO March 14th (ABP) – The communal administrator of Cankuzo (east), Mr. Innocent Nyandwi, met on Monday March 12, 2018, hill leaders, representatives of political parties and religious denominations, heads of police stations and representatives of joint security committees at communal and hill levels to ask them to work in synergy to eradicate prohibited drinks forever and raise awareness on the regularization of common-law marriages.
During the meeting, the communal administrator of Cankuzo said with regret that the commune comes first in the manufacture, sale and consumption of prohibited drinks, especially the drink commonly called “Murahakajari”. He said that at least 21,000 liters of that drink were already poured on the ground and that the conservation materials were also destroyed, but to no avail, because there was always complicity of some hill elected officials, some police officers and some members joint security committees, as revealed by the participants at the meeting, referred to as a warning for the last time.
The Cankuzo communal administrator therefore invited everyone to contribute in raising awareness on the eradication of prohibited beverages forever, saying that there will be no excuse after March 31, 2018. He also asked the attendees of the meeting to lend a hand in raising awareness about the regularization of common-law marriages, noting that the grace period has been extended until March 31, 2018.
Mr. Nyandwi pointed out that households living under common-law marriages are still observed in Cankuzo commune, before stating that sanctions will be applied to anyone who has not regularized his marriage after March 31, 2018.
The meeting was also an opportunity to ask the participants to contribute, more than ever, to raising public awareness about hygiene, as well as the provision of adequate latrines in each household, the schooling of all children and the fight against school dropouts.
