GITEGA September 28th (ABP) – The Burundi Senate approved in a plenary session on Thursday September 26, 2019, in its Congress House in Gitega (center of the country), four bills presented to them by the Minister in charge of Trade, Mr. Jean Marie Niyokindi.

These included the bill on ratification by the Republic of Burundi of the amended Article 24.2 (a) of the Protocol Establishing the Customs Union of the East African Community, the bill on Ratification by the Republic of the Agreement Establishing the Tripartite Free Trade Area between the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), signed in Sharm El Sheikh, in the Arab Republic of Egypt, on June 10, 2019.

It was also the bill on ratification by the Republic of Burundi of the Protocol Amending the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization and the bill on Ratification by the Republic of Burundi of the Protocol Amending the Agreement on Aspects of Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights.

Previously, the Burundi Senate had approved ten members of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary.

Their applications forwarded by the President of the Republic were presented by the Minister of Justice, Civil Protection and Seals Control, Ms. Aimee Laurentine Kanyana.
