GITEGA October 11th (ABP) – The Burundi Senate unanimously approved on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, the bill on ratification by the Republic of Burundi of the loan agreement between the Republic of Burundi and the Exim bank of India amounting to US $ 161.36 million relating to the construction project of the Parliament House in Gitega and ministerial buildings in Burundi, signed in New Delhi on July 2, 2019.

The Minister in charge of Finance, Mr. Domitien Ndihokubwayo, who represented the government to enlighten Senators on the bill, said that the National Assembly and Senate of Burundi are institutions that work in small and inappropriate buildings. In addition, the building that houses the Senate is leased to the third, he said, explaining that the said project is aimed at reducing spending on rent and the increase in the State’s housing stock. Minister Ndihokubwayo also said that the construction of ministerial buildings will allow the government to acquire new buildings of good quality. The said loan will be repayable over a period of 25 years.
