Ruling party election campaign goes on in Bururi and Makamba provinces

BURURI / MAKAMBA May 12th (ABP) – The President of the Republic of Burundi and leader of the Council of Elders within the CNDD-FDD party, Mr. Pierre Nkurunziza, was Saturday May 9, 2020 in Butwe village of Matana commune Bururi province (southwest of the country) where he joined the activists of this party in the activities of the electoral campaign. It was an opportunity to present to the people of that region in general and particularly to the gathering of the Bagumyabanga from the provinces of that region, namely Bururi, Makamba, Rumonge and Rutana, the candidate of this party for the presidential election, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

On the twelfth day of the electoral campaign, Mr. Pierre Nkurunziza said that the CNDD-FDD party had been a divine blessing for Burundi because, he explained, the current image of the country is far different from that of 2005. He announced that he was terminating his mandate at a time when the country’s economy was good, welcoming the accomplishment of the missions assigned to his government since 2005, namely guaranteeing peace and security, reconciling the people, and ensuring good governance in the economy and in matters of administration.

President Nkurunziza thanked the Bagumyabanga (members of the CNDD-FDD) who remained by his side in 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2018, before expressing his gratitude to the friends of the country who have always supported Burundi during the difficult moments.

Mr. Nkurunziza, who lambasted the behavior of some people who claimed to be friends of the country, said that those who rebelled against the government of the CNDD-FDD party taught them a lesson. He also expressed his thanks to the representatives of religious denominations for the behavior they displayed in 2015.

As for the elections to be held on May 20, the leader of the Council of Elders wanted to reassure both national and international opinion that those elections will be good and special because, he said, they are organized when we gave first place to God. In addition, he underlined, “I have been sworn in before the deputies and senators, but my successor will swear in public, before God and his people”.

Before the candidate for the CNDD-FDD party was presented for the presidential election, President Nkurunziza urged the people in general and the Bagumyabanga in particular to choose leaders obedient to God, who fear him and fulfill his will. He said that Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye has held a number of positions in the country. He is creative and multiplies the cash crops in Burundi, continued President Pierre Nkurunziza, who called on the people to vote for the candidate of the CNDD-FDD party.

While speaking, the candidate of the CNDD-FDD party for the presidential election, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, initially welcomed the massive presence of Bagumyabanga and activists from other political parties. He reassured the people of Bururi province to whom he indicated that he was aware of his grievances and that he had taken them into account in his project for society. He promised electrification in each commune in the province.

In the agriculture sector, Mr. Ndayishimiye stressed that all crops can be grown in the Bututsi region, from where he advised the people of that region to work tirelessly and reach the stage where the Mugamba region brings currency in the country. He further reported that Bururi province has soil favorable for the cultivation of tea.

Concerning the social infrastructures, he promised the construction of the road connecting the Bururi province to the political capital Gitega (center). In addition, Makamba and Rumonge provinces will be connected to the political capital via Bururi province, he said, also reassuring that fair justice will be a duty of the government. To that end, he called on the people in general and the Bagumyabanga in particular to work hard to have better production and fight poverty.

In the afternoon, the presidential candidate of the CNDD-FDD party went to Butare hill in Kayogoro commune of Makamba province (south) where he was greeted by the Senate President, Mr. Révérien Ndikuriyo (a native of that commune), the provincial secretary of the CNDD-FDD party in Makamba, Mr. Adalbert Nininahazwe and CNDD-FDD militants (the Bagumyabanga).

After greeting the Bagumyabanga, Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye asked the people of Kayogoro commune to serve as a model by taking first place in the race for development, as they took the lead in the fight for democracy, and to create cooperatives.

In Makamba, the CNDD-FDD candidate for the presidential election, was on Sunday May 10 in Buheka village of the Kazirabageni zone in Nyanza-Lake commune, where he joined the Bagumyabanga of that commune to continue activities of the electoral campaign for the elections of May 20, a check on the site by ABP has revealed.

When Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye arrived in Buheka village in the afternoon, the Bagumyabanga got into motion, to the rhythm of their song, the message of which was “Here’s the heir, let’s come and welcome him.”

Mr. Ndayishimiye said that the choice of Buheka village was not a coincidence, explaining that since he is the secretary general of the CNDD-FDD party, he had promised the people of Nyanza-Lake commune stay by his side because, he said, they lived together difficult times and joy.

He took that opportunity to ask the people of Nyaza-Lake commune to combine their efforts to work in synergy in order to fight poverty. He thus calls on the people to always go about income-generating activities, and welcomes the initiative of certain people who have already undertaken to cultivate the cash crop “pachuri”. He said a cash crop that coexists with palm trees will also be introduced in Burundi. He promised the development of the center of Buheka by the urgent electrification of the Buheka zone because, he recalled, that zone knew painful moments in the past. He invited the local people to sit together to develop profitable projects to accelerate their development. He also promised to be the commander of the fight against poverty. General Major Evariste Ndayishimiye calls on the Bagumyabanga to teach militants from other political parties to ally themselves with the CNDD-FDD party in this fight.

On the same occasion, the provincial secretary of the CNDD-FDD party in Makamba, Mr. Adalbert Nininahazwe, testified that the presence of secretary general CNDD-FDD, at the same time candidate of this party for the presidential election, in that commune is not new. He said that there are many Bagumyabanga in his province and that they will vote for the candidate of their party.
