A man accused of willingly injuring his pregnant wife was sentenced to one-year imprisonment

BUBANZA  February 26th (ABP) – A one-year prison and a fine of 50,000 BIF is the sentence inflicted on Mr. Athanase Nkunzimana by the Bubanza high court (northwestern Burundi) in a flagrant lawsuit on Friday February 23, 2018, a check by ABP revealed.
In the public hearing, the Public Prosecutor accused Mr. Nkunzimana of deliberately injuring his pregnant wife with a machete for the simple reason that she returned late on February 8, 2018, and asked for a three-year imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 BIF.
As for Mr. Nkunzimana, he denied having injured her voluntarily and indicated that the intention was to hit the man with whom his wife was committing adultery near his home, around 10:15 pm.
At the bar, the victim denied the allegations of her husband, but asked the judges to forgive her husband, Nkunzimana.
After deliberation, the Bubanza High Court imposed a prison sentence of one year and a fine of 50,000 BIF.
